Sustainable purchase of raw materials
- To improve the sustainability of our supply chain, wherever possible we focus on short delivery routes and local sourcing.
- Our main cellulose raw material derived from trees comes from sustainable forestry, assured by the corresponding certification Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC).
- Following our life cycle assessment, the subsequent hotspot analysis revealed that caustic soda is a significant contributor to our environmental footprint. As a result, we made the decision to reduce our upstream scope 3 emissions by transitioning our caustic soda supply to a more sustainable source. This change emphasises our commitment to minimizing scope 3 emissions.
- For other raw materials, we are working with our suppliers to check when sustainably produced variants of these raw materials will be available.
Purchasing of sustainable packaging materials
We have already succeeded in switching a greater proportion of packaging materials to more sustainable alternatives with recycled content where permitted. These customers receive Bigbags that are now produced with 30% recycled content. All outer packing films are made with a minimum of 30% recycled content. These examples demonstrate our commitment to move our entire packaging portfolio to more sustainable or reusable products, and to progressively increase the recycled content stepwise where permitted.
By participating in a packaging collection and recycling system (RIGK), we enable our customers to effectively recycle packaging materials. This not only helps reduce waste, but also promotes a sustainable circular economy.
